Laminate Veneers vs Zirconia Crowns

One of the most common questions we receive from patients planning their smile makeover is this: what's the difference between laminate veneers and zirconia crowns, and which one is right for me?

It's a great question, and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on the condition of your teeth and the result you want to achieve.

Laminate veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Because very little of the natural tooth is removed, they are considered a more conservative option. They are ideal for patients whose teeth are structurally healthy but who want to improve the shape, colour, or alignment of their smile. The result looks incredibly natural — light passes through porcelain in a similar way to natural enamel, which gives veneers their lifelike appearance.

Zirconia crowns, on the other hand, cover the entire tooth. They are stronger and more durable, making them the preferred choice when a tooth is heavily damaged, has had root canal treatment, or needs significant structural support. Zirconia is extremely hard-wearing and holds its colour well over time.
